Saturday. 15 February 2025 was horrific. We woke up to water flooding our porch right up to our front door. It was raining hard during the night and it was continuing. Hubby got out and dug a ditch to move the water away plus started the water pump we have. Still didn't work while hubby went to buy another pump I squeegeed the porch keeping the water away from the door. Running the 2 pumps worked keeping the water from entering. We had received around 6inches of rain when it stopped. Hubby went to check on our cattle at around 4:30pm. Everything was okay then.
That night the skies opened up...hubby was in bed. I got ready to plug in the pumps went to the bathroom opened the front door water came rushing in! Pumps plugged in and they weren't putting a dent of the water pouring in. I woke hubby and we both started trying to stop water from coming inside to no avail. My hubby is awesome, he sent me to bed and continued mopping up water until it stopped raining. Saturday night we got 3 inches. morning he continued drying up the floor, he did the majority of the work while I took care of the animals and moving things around. When he was done he went to check our other animals. The roads were bad and lots of driveways were washed out. The chickens were fine but when he got to our cattle it was bad!!!!
The shipping container was moved about 300ft to across our neighbors driveway. Our tractor with some other equipment was in that container. By some miracle the tractor is fine. Over 200ft of fencing was gone, the gate was crumpled up, and our longhorns were out of the pasture.
Our friends, Tony Eldridge and Justin came to help, plus our son Alex and his friend, Amen. I did have to go there and pick up our dogs. John gave the cows hay to keep them occupied.
They did what they could but had to stop. The cow's pasture was still unsecured. Hubby got the supplies early this morning (Monday). Yes the cows were out! They had crossed the run off into our other neighbor's land except the calves that were laying down in the grass. When they saw John they all ran back into our pasture. Go figure.
John called me to come help. The pasture is secure now but we still have to do some more work. The container was moved back to our property by another angel farmer the next day. Adventures to be continued...
